Always,
Crystal Gregory

Fair Folks & a Goat in Carnegie Hill
Please join on us on Wednesday, July 21st for a talk by our newest artist, Crystal Gregory. We will be open for a preview at 6pm. The talk begins at 7pm and will be followed by a reception. If you can't make it Wednesday evening, come meet Crystal and see her work over the weekend, during our regular gallery hours. Selections from the show will remain in our permanent installation. Crystal is a New York-based, multi-media artist, known both for installation work and wall and table-top sculpture. The pieces on view will include her dry wall panels, delicately incised with lace patterning, and industrial bricks covered with hand-worked crochet. Gregory’s contrasting materials reflect the dichotomies she explores in her work: domestic interiors and architectural exteriors, nostalgia and modernity, fragility and strength, and femininity and masculinity.

Billy is the werewolfian brainchild of feted writer Joannie Roman Redd, but she thinks of ending it all when reviews for her latest book recommend she puts her stories on the big screen. A fast-paced farce ensues as her pack of hangers-on are horrified at the prospect of their livelihood being killed, but all that Joannie wants is a chance for true love. Will Tristan find his tart? Will Priscilla ever leave her BAFTA behind? Will Rick’s silver bullet do the trick? Will William ever get his words out? Will May make it on her own? Will Christopher leave his wife? And what’s the big deal with diaphanous?

Member Spotlight: Cornelia Jenson, 2X2
"BVR Trailer" oil on canvas by Michael Jensen
2X2
I am proud to present the art exhibition 2X2. It is the first show I have curated of my own personal selection of artists since living in New York City. The name 2X2 refers to the theme size of the wall art, two feet by two feet, and the relationships between the participating artists. The artists include two couples and two pairs of siblings. It will be interesting to contemplate the similarities and differences between the pieces created by people in such close relation to each other. There may be apparent convergent or divergent evolution between people’s personal expression. We may notice the power of influence whether it is inspiration or reaction. These very close relationships represent the first, most basic level of community and how well it functions. This can then remind us of the functioning of community as a larger phenomenon.
-Cornelia Jensen www.corneliajensen.com
Participating Artists:
Camille Altay
Mark Enger
Matt Enger
Eric Holmes
Cornelia Jensen
Michael Jensen
Rebecca Michaels
Kevin Wellech
Opening night performances:
“Side Show Text Act” – by Philip Brunetti of Brooklyn
“4 out of 5” – by Sue Spolan of Philadelphia
2X2 will take place at:
Windows Gallery (two blocks from PS1)
1303A Jackson Avenue
Long Island City, NY 11101
2X2 will have an opening reception on:
Thursday, July 15, 2010 from 7-9pm
The show will be on view from Friday July 16 through Sunday August 8th
Fridays through Sundays 3-7pm or by appointment (646-327-4066)
Jensen received her MFA from California College of the Arts in 2009. She has curated numerous exhibitions in New York and San Francisco and has exhibited work in the United States, Europe and Asia. While in San Francisco, Jensen participated in an artist residency at the Lola Gallery, which she helped create. She also designed and created other venues for art and film, most notably The Werepad, where she curated multi-media events, and worked on independent films. From 1988 to 1991 Jensen attended the graduate program in Film/Video Performance at California College of Arts and Crafts. In 1987, she received a BA in Philosophy from Haverford College. In 1986 she studied at the Syracuse University Studio Art Program in Florence, Italy. She graduated with honors in Art from The Masters School in 1983 and received the Merriam Hewitt Art Award. Her father, a landscape painter, was her first teacher, always involving her in his art practice. Jensen was born in 1965 and grew up outside of New York City.
