A special message from our Founder, Heidi Russell...
Celebrating Women around the World!
In honor of the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, National Women's History Month, and the international SWAN Day festivities (Support Women Artists Now), I am thrilled to announce that we have secured a venue partnership with Manhattan Theatre Source for a 5-day celebration of women and women's artistry, March 26th through March 31st, with our March Salon gathering closing out the celebration on Thursday, March 31st.

Let's celebrate each other and our connections, our individual and collective creative forces, and being Women, with women all around the world!

You can participate even if you are located outside of NYC! Please read on and send to me ideas of your contribution from your location (if you'd like to do something local in tandem and/or send me something to add to our installation here in NYC).

Looking forward to honoring, celebrating, and supporting women and women artists around the world with each of you!

Creative Cheers~Heidi

Site Specific Installation

We will have the front window box stage of Manhattan Theatre Source, where we will create together a site specific installation throughout the week...you can come by anytime MTS is open (see hours below) to participate/make your contribution...all disciplines are invited to contribute to the installation through visual art, writing, movement, music, sound, performance (think out of the box...dance around the physical piece, embed a video or sound element, perform with the piece, etc). We are also inviting other women artists to make contributions: MTS artists and patrons going in and out of the venue, passerbyers from the street (window box visible from the street), your friends and colleagues. There will be a component where men can even show their support through a SWAN fan book!

Here is information about the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire the play is based on:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle_Shirtwaist_Factory_fire

The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in New York City on March 25, 1911, was the deadliest industrial disaster in the history of the city of New York and resulted in the fourth highest loss of life from an industrial accident in U.S. history. The fire caused the deaths of 146 garment workers, who either died from the fire or jumped to their deaths. Most of the victims were recent immigrant Jewish women aged sixteen to twenty-three. [1] Many of the workers could not escape the burning building because the managers had locked the doors to the stairwells and exits. People jumped from the eighth, ninth, and tenth floors. The fire led to legislation requiring improved factory safety standards and helped spur the growth of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union, which fought for better working conditions for sweatshop workers. The factory was located in the Asch Building, at 29 Washington Place, now known as the Brown Building, which has been designated a National Historic Landmark and a New York City landmark.[2]
