Salon Solo {Radio}: Waltrudis Buck, author and actor
Waltrudis Buck grew up in postwar Germany. She has lived in Manhattan for several decades now, working as a translator (plays by Esther Vilar). As an actor she studied with Strasberg and
Uta Hagen and has worked with Woody Allen, Oliver Stone, Barry Levinson, Todd Haynes, Lisa Cholodenko among others, besides appearing in regional theatre. Her last acting stint was as a “kindly old lady making fun of TRUMP” on Stephen Colbert - alas to little effect. She earned a MFA in fiction writing from Hunter in 2003. Her thesis, a novel then titled Lebensborn, was recently published as an e-book under the title THE BERLIN GIRL. It is available at Amazon and KOBO.

The Berlin Girl - Kindle edition by Waltrudis Buck. Literature & Fiction Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

What could induce a mother to leave her newborn in the hands of the Nazis? What if you found out you were that child?

Berlin, 1936. It’s the year of the Olympics. Lydia is 17, and filled with enthusiasm about her future. She’s going to start college and meet the man of her dreams. But the world is changing around her. Four years later she gives birth to a girl in one of Himmler’s Lebensborn homes. Decades afterwards, a woman in New Jersey finds a mysterious birth certificate that sends her on a journey to find her birth mother.

“A Himmler Kindlein. We were not allowed to say baby,” the old midwife exclaimed. “Were they christened right here in the home?” Mary asked. “Named, a naming ceremony, no priest, no holy water, a sword on the pillow, very festive.”

Mary grew up in New Jersey, the beloved only daughter of a WWII veteran. Or so she thought. Could it be she was born in a Nazi clinic? Did she once sit on Himmler’s lap? Does she even want to find her birth mother if she is still alive?

Salon Radio Special: Rock The Audition with founder Sheri Sanders
Rock The Audition, a website which provides a revolutionary online training program for performers and their teachers with custom cut and arranged sheet music, backing tracks, videos on technique and style, and master classes to fully develop the relationship between popular music and musical theatre.

Sheri uses her platform to address major social issues in young people and will be extending that on Huffington Post in mid-January. Since Sheri Sanders’s Hal Leonard book, Rock The Audition, was published in 2011, Sanders has blazed a trail by innovating the education of the significant relationship between popular music, pop culture, and performance. As the most sought-after pop/rock performance coach for stage and screen, Sheri has created Rock The Audition, a website which provides a revolutionary online training program for performers and their teachers with custom cut and arranged sheet music, backing tracks, videos on technique and style, and master classes to fully develop the relationship between popular music and musical theatre.

Sanders' performance techniques have brought her students not only to the Broadway stage, touring companies, and regional productions of Hamilton, Waitress, Natasha, Pierre…., Diner, Kinky Boots, Spring Awakening (Broadway revival), The Last Ship, Here Lies Love (The Public), Jersey Boys, Spiderman Turn Off the Dark, Memphis, Rock of Ages, Sister Act, Mamma Mia!, American Idiot, Wicked, Rent, Hairspray, Legally Blonde and Regina Spektor's Beauty, to name a few. Her students are also seen on television shows such as The Voice, Empire, Grease Live!, X Factor, American Idol, Glee, and The Glee Project. Sanders' book, Rock the Audition: How to Prepare For and Get Cast in Rock Musicals (Hal Leonard Books) and her workshops are changing the face of auditioning for musical theatre on the stage and screen.

Bio
Sheri Sanders is a professional actor who in 2004, noticed that popular music was changing the landscape of musical theatre and created Rock The Audition: a master class in auditioning for rock musicals. The class became a hit in New York City and Sheri quickly became an international, preeminent popular music repertoire coach. Since 2011, Sheri became the first author to publish a book on the new relationship between popular music and musical theatre: Rock The Audition: How to Prepare for and Get Cast in Musicals. Together the book and master class have brought Sheri to 59 musical theatre programs in four and a half years. Sheri leads by example as a diversified performer as well, as Lourds Lane, the creator of the recent Off-Broadway hit Rock musical, Chix6, called her “the secret weapon” of the production, as Sheri successfully covered the entire company of rock singers - women AND men.

COMING UP for Sheri
Sheri Sanders, celebrated performance coach, will be launching her new Rock the Audition - Pre-Professional Rock Musical Training Program, a collaboration with theatrical Buzzfeed phenom Theatre Nerds, at BroadwayCon on Saturday, January 28th at 3:00 PM.
